Women’s soccer team beats Bluffton, 2-1
Kayleigh McLeod scored the game-winning goal with 1:14 left in the game, as the women’s soccer team defeated Bluffton (Ohio), 2-1, in a non-conference game today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. -- Freshman Kayleigh McLeod (London, Ontaio/Saunders Secondary) scored the game-winning goal with 1:14 left in the game, as the Olivet College women's soccer team defeated Bluffton (Ohio) University, 2-1, in a non-conference game today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Comets first got on the scoreboard in the 23rd minute on junior Lizzy Julian's (Mattawan) goal. Freshman Lindsey Winters (Plymouth/Canton) earned the assist on the goal. The Beavers scored the equalizer in the 32nd minute, which was the first goal against Olivet in 425 minutes, 38 seconds of game time. The score remained knotted at 1-1 at halftime. Late in the game, sophomore Marcee Lettinga (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Central) played a ball to the feet of Winters. She passed the ball to McLeod, who scored her first collegiate goal.
For the game, the Comets out-shot Bluffton, 19-10, but the shots-on-goal were nearly equal, 8-7, in favor of Olivet. Senior Katie Koralewski (Sterling Heights/Stevenson) led the way with five shots, including four on-goal. Junior Danielle Mellor (Macomb/Regina) took three shots. Senior Alyssa Budros (Traverse City/Central) made six saves.
Olivet (7-1-1) will play back-to-back games Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, the Comets travel to play Marygrove College at 4:15 p.m., and on Friday, they host Rochester College at 4 p.m. Please note the change in the start time for Thursday's game.
