Wrestling team has 2-0 record at Thunder Duals
The Olivet College wrestling team posted a 2-0 record at the Tri-State University Thunder Duals today at Hershey Hall in Angola, Ind. The Comets opened the day with a 33-12 win over Muskegon Community College and then beat the host Thunder, 34-12. Tri-State beat MCC, 33-15.

Against MCC, Olivet won seven-of-10 matches, three each by forfeit and minor decision and one by pin. Recording the forfeit wins were junior Rob Yahrmarkt (Sparta) at 141 pounds, junior Kyle Vanderhyde (Sparta) at 174 pounds and freshman Joe McAllister (Sault Ste. Marie) at 184 pounds. At 157 pounds, junior Jason Brew (Sparta) pinned Rich Stafford in 4:39.
At 149 pounds, sophomore Nick Leon (Sterling Heights/Henry Ford II) won, 6-2. At 165 pounds, junior Greg Jarratt (Centreville) picked-up an 11-5 win. At 285 pounds, sophomore Sean Misko (Richmond) earned a 7-5 victory.
Against Tri-State, the Comets won seven matches, including three by pin. Brew and Misko each recorded first-period pins. Brew's was the fastest pin of the day in 31 seconds, while Misko came in 1:00. The third pin was by sophomore 197-pounder Joe Yurisich (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) in 5:42.
At 165 pounds, senior Daron Cruickshank (Inkster/John Glenn) posted a technical fall win, while junior Kyle Labrecque (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) had a 12-1 major decision win at 125 pounds. Vanderhyde was bumped a weight class to 184 pounds, and defeated Louis Posa, 14-5. Freshman Vince Lahar (Clio) beat his opponent, 9-6.
Olivet is back in action Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 12-13, when it participates in the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals at the University of Northern Iowa Dome in Cedar Falls. The invitation-only event features the 16 schools from each of the NCAA levels as well as NAIA, NCWA and NJCAA ranks. Seeds for the duals will be announced Wednesday, and action gets under way Saturday at 9 a.m.
