The Olivet College wrestling team has finished as the runner-up in the annual academic championship in collegiate wrestling, which is sponsored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA). Olivet’s team grade point average (GPA) of 3.497 ranked second-best among 93 Division III schools.
The Olivet College wrestling team crowned three championships en route to a second-place finish (out of 12 schools) today at the 2008 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional, which was hosted by Wabash (Ind.) College. All 10 Comets placed in the top six, and they totaled 140 points, which was 51 points behind Delaware Valley (Pa.) College.
Five individuals took first-place, as the Olivet College wrestling team captured the team title at the 2008 Mid-States Conference Tournament, which was hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terra Haute, Ind. In addition, junior Jason Brew (Sparta) was named the Wrestler of the Year, while freshman Vince Lahar (Clio) was selected as the Freshman of the Year.
The Olivet College wrestling team stands in seventh-place after the first day of competition at the 2008 Pete Willson-Wheaton College Invitational at King Arena in Wheaton, Ill. Four wrestlers will compete in tomorrow’s second day of action, which gets under way at 10 a.m. CT.
The Olivet College wrestling team captured the team title today at the 26th Annual Al Hanke Invitational, which was hosted by Elmhurst (IIl.) College. The Comets tallied 121 points and were the only school to have nine wrestlers place in the top six.
The Olivet College wrestling team bowed out of the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals today with a 1-2 record. In their first match, the Comets defeated Buena Vista (Iowa) University, 24-12. In the second round, they were shutout by No. 1 seed Wartburg (Iowa) College, 47-0. Olivet suffered a 19-16 loss to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University in the second round of the consolation bracket.
The Olivet College wrestling team posted a 2-0 record at the Tri-State University Thunder Duals today at Hershey Hall in Angola, Ind. The Comets opened the day with a 33-12 win over Muskegon Community College and then beat the host Thunder, 34-12. Tri-State beat MCC, 33-15.
