Damico and Plourde finish in 34th-place at WGCA/Pure Silk Women’s Collegiate Championship
Olivet College women's golfers Theresa Damico and Adrienne Plourde finished in 34th-place at the 2013 WGCA/Pure Silk Women's Collegiate Team Championship, which was played at the Wedgewood Golf & Country Club in Powell, Ohio.
POWELL, Ohio – Olivet College women's golfers Theresa Damico and Adrienne Plourde finished in 34th-place at the 2013 WGCA/Pure Silk Women's Collegiate Team Championship, which was played at the Wedgewood Golf & Country Club in Powell, Ohio. The format of the three-day tournament was alternate shot, best ball and aggregate score of the two golfers.
In today's third round, Plourde carded a 14-over par 86, while Damico was a stroke behind at 87. Their combined three-round total was 328 strokes, which placed them only one stroke behind the duo of Jacueline Carroll and Kelsey Smith from NCAA Division III member DePauw (Ind.) University.
In Wednesday's best ball round, Damico and Plourde shot a one-under par 71. They had an 84 in Tuesday's alternate shot round. Liz Nagel and Trisha Witherby from Michigan State University were crowned the champions with a six-under par 258. The 42-team field was comprised of seven NCAA Divisiion III schools, three NCAA Division II schools and 32 NCAA Division I schools.
Damico and Plourde will be seniors on the 2013-14 Olivet College women's golf team. The duo has helped the Comets win back-to-back Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships. Damico is a three-time All-MIAA golfer, including a two-time first-team selection. She is also the reigning MIAA Most Valuable Golfer. Plourde is also a two-time All-MIAA pick. They finished 1-2 in last year's player standings.
