The Olivet College baseball team was defeated by NCAA Division I foe University of Toledo (Ohio), 27-8, this afternoon at Scott Park in Toledo, Ohio.

The Olivet College baseball team was defeated by NCAA Division I foe University of Toledo (Ohio), 27-8, this afternoon at Scott Park in Toledo, Ohio.
Olivet dented the scoreboard with two runs in the first inning. Junior Braydon LaFramboise (Flushing/Mt. Morris) walked to start the game and went to third on a single by junior Ben Kosmalski (Canton/Plymouth). Senior Erik McCloud's (Holly) ripped a single into right field, plating LaFramboise. Sophomore Austin Clark (Ossineke/Alpena) grounded into a double play, which scored Kosmalski.
The Rockets then scored eight unanswered runs, three in the second and five in the third, to take an 8-1 lead. The Comets got one run back in the fourth when sophomore Jacob Blamer (Newaygo) drew a bases loaded walk to score sophomore Tyler Olinske (Negaunee). Toledo put the game out of reach with two runs in its half of the fourth and 12 more runs in the fifth for a commanding 22-3 advantage.
Freshman Ryan Pitt (Imlay City) was tagged for eight runs on 12 hits in three innings to suffer the loss. McCloud finished the game with three of Olivet's 10 hits. Seven other players each recorded a base hit, while five different players collected one RBI apiece. Freshman Randy Young (Wixom/Walled Lake Western) scored two runs.
The Comets are scheduled to play a nine-inning non-conference game against Aquinas College tomorrow at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. Game time is 1 p.m.
