Volleyball: Olivet loses to No. 1 Hope in three sets
The Olivet College volleyball team fell to No. 1 Hope College in three sets (25-9, 25-19 and 25-19) tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team fell to No. 1 Hope College in three sets (25-9, 25-19 and 25-19) tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Flying Dutch entered the match as the top-ranked team in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll with a perfect 22-0 record.
Hope led the first set from start-to-finish. The Comets were only down 12-11 in the second set before Hope went on a 7-0 run to take control of the set. Olivet led 5-3 in the third set until the Flying Dutch scored four straight points to gain a 7-5 lead. Undaunted, the Comets came back and grabbed another two-point lead, 14-12. Olivet continued to lead at 16-15 until Hope scored 10 of the final 14 points to earn the sweep.
For the match, senior Stefanie Lang had a team-leading eight kills. Junior Marissa Guile put down five kills. Sophomore Danielle Bearden dished out 11 set assists. Sophomore Mona Hinamanu recorded a match-high 15 digs.
Olivet plays a 6:30 p.m. Friday night at Alma College.
