Volleyball: Olivet swept by Trine in three sets
The Olivet College volleyball team was swept by Trine (Ind.) University in three sets, 25-14, 25-21, 25-22, tonight inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team was swept by Trine (Ind.) University in three sets, 25-14, 25-21, 25-22, tonight inside The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
After a 6-6 tie in the first set, the Thunder scored three consecutive points to take control of the set. The margin at the end of the set was Trine's biggest lead. The Thunder held a 12-4 lead in the second set. The Comets battled back and trailed by only one point, 18-17. Trine scored seven of the final 11 points to win the set.
Olivet had an early 2-0 lead in the third set. The teams traded points until the Thunder forced an 8-8 tie. Trine then scored four straight points to go up 12-8 and never relinquished the lead for the rest of the set.
Seeing her first action of the season, senior Emma Brann led the Comets with eight kills. Junior Marissa Guile was next with seven kills and a .294 attack percentage. Senior Taylor Pringle dished out 11 assists. Sophomore Mona Hinamanu topped the back row with 12 digs.
Olivet travels to Washington D.C. for a tournament at Gallaudet University Friday and Saturday. The Comets' first match is against Gallaudet Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
