The volleyball team kicked off Homecoming weekend with a tough four-set loss to Trine tonight at the Cutler Event Center in Olivet.

OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College volleyball team kicked off Homecoming weekend with a tough four-set loss to Trine (Ind.) University tonight at the Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Thunder won the first two sets by identical scores, 25-16. Olivet battled back to win the third set, 25-18 before the Thunder won the match with a 26-24 win in the fourth set.
Junior Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) led the Comets with 12 kills. Sophomores Sam Gibson (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and Melanie Merchant (St. Joseph) had nine kills apiece. Senior Jenessa Hicks (Union City) recorded 27 assists. Defensively, junior Mallory Schug (Climax/Galesburg Augusta) posted a match-high 16 digs.
Olivet is back in action tomorrow when it hosts Hope College at 1 p.m.
