UOlivet’s Baynes finishes 13th in pentathlon at MIAA Combined Events

ALMA, Mich. – The University of Olivet junior Ellie Baynes scored 2,083 total points to place 13th in the pentathlon as part of the 2026 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships. It is the inaugural year for the combined events at the MIAA Championships, which will be completed February 27-28 at Trine (Ind.) University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 60-meter hurdles, Baynes ran the race in a personal best time of 10.89 seconds for 555 points.
- She then cleared the high jump bar at a personal best distance of 4 feet, 4-3/4 inches (1.34 meters) for 449 points.
- Baynes followed that with a 26 feet, 1-1/2 inch (7.96m) mark in the shot put for 397 points.
- She posted a season best in the long jump at 14 feet, 7-3/4 inches (4.46m) for 418 points.
- Baynes ended the competition with a time of three minutes and 11.66 seconds in the 800-meter run for 264 points.
- She is only the third female in UOlivet history to compete in the pentathlon. The others were Cassie Ciaravino twice during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, and Emily Norkowski during the 2022 season. Ciaravino scored 3,284 points, while Norkowski had 2,429 points.
