Track and field teams finish in sixth- and seventh-place at the MIAA Indoor Championships
The Olivet College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams finished in sixth- and seventh-place at the inaugural Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships today in Angola, Indiana.
Bauserman wins 800-meter title, Barber scores in two events
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College men's and women's indoor track and field teams finished in sixth- and seventh-place at the inaugural Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships today in Angola, Indiana. Trine (Ind.) University captured the men's team title, while Calvin College won the women's team title.
For the men, junior Connor Bauserman claimed Olivet's lone individual event title with a first-place time of 1:55.62 in the 800-meter run. Junior Bruce Baker was the fourth runner to cross the finish line in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:33.79. Junior Blake Wilson finished seventh in the mile run at 4:26.10.
In the field events, senior Travon Tatum placed fourth in the long jump with a 6.37m leap. Sophomore Mitchell Smith scored fifth-place points in the weight throw with a 14.40m toss. Senior Drew Miller finished in seventh-place in the shot put with a school-record 13.38m throw.
For the women, freshman Kimberly Barber and junior Allyson Schultz accounted for 14 of the Comets' team points. Barber placed second in the long jump with a 5.28m leap and fifth in the 60-meter dash at 8.24 seconds. During the prelims of the 60-meter dash, Barber broke the school record with a time of 8.21 seconds. Schultz placed seventh in the 5,000-meter run. She shattered the school record by more than 20 seconds with a time of 18:45.42.
Senior Danielle Hoffman placed eighth in the pole vault. She cleared the bar at 2.75m. The Comets' remaining nine team points were a sixth-place finish in the distance medley and fifth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. Running on the 4x400-meter relay were junior Brianna Wiles, sophomore Isabelle Leon, senior Lauren Easton and Barber. Easton, Leon and Wiles were joined by senior Danielle Marsh on the distance medley in a school-record time of 13:55.16.
The Comets are off until March 26 when they open the outdoor portion of their schedule at the Defiance (Ohio) College Dick Small Invitational. Events get started at noon inside the Justin F. Corressel Stadium.
