Men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams finish in sixth and seventh at Trine Invitational #3
The Olivet College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams finished in sixth- and seventh-place at the Trine University Invitational #3 tonight at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind. The men scored 27 points, while the women had 35 points.

Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind. The men scored 27 points, while the women had 35 points.
The women were led by junior Becca Gaarde (Parma/Western). She was third in the 200-meter dash at 27.56 seconds and fifth in the 50-meter dash at 8.50 seconds. Sophomore Jenna Mayle (Ionia) placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.40 seconds. She was slightly faster, 10.36, in the preliminaries. The 4x400-meter relay finished in third-place, crossing the finish line in 4:43.89.
In the field events, sophomore Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) had a 10.63 meter toss in the shot put, which placed her fifth among 17 throwers. Sophomore Katie Thelen (St. Johns) was eighth with an 8.77 meter throw.
For the men, senior James Williams (Battle Creek/Central) and freshman Henry Pettway (East Lansing) were sixth and seventh, respectively in the 60-meter dash. Williams finished in 7.29 seconds, and Pettway was three one-hundredths behind in 7.32 seconds. Freshman Billyle Allman (Lansing/Okemos) scored sixth-place points in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.98 seconds.
Freshman Jalen Weaver (Albion) was sixth in the 400-meter run at 54.10 seconds. Freshman Evan Simpson (Romeo) finished in eighth-place in the 800-meter run at 2:06.97. Also finishing in eighth was freshman Greg Lutzke (Williamston) in the one mile run at 4:44.66. Olivet's distance medley relay took first-place in 11:13.23. The other two relays, 4x200-meter relay placed second with a time of 1:35.04, and 4x400-meter relay was fifth at 3:46.45.
Olivet and the rest of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schools will gather at Calvin College for an indoor meet next Saturday, Feb. 25. Events will get started at 10 a.m.
