Indoor track & field teams competed at Trine Invitational #2
The Olivet College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed Friday night at the Trine University Invitational #2 today at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind. The meet featured a mix of NCAA Division III and NAIA schools from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed Friday night at the Trine University Invitational #2 today at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind. The meet featured a mix of NCAA Division III and NAIA schools from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.
The top finisher for the Comet women was junior Becca Gaarde (Parma/Western). She won her heat and placed sixth overall in the 200-meter run with a time of 27.72 seconds. Another top 10 performance was turned in by sophomore Jenna Mayle (Ionia), who placed ninth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.73 seconds.
In field events, sophomore Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) placed 10th in the shot put with a 34 feet, 7.75 inch throw.
The top finisher for the Comet men was freshman Henry Pettway (East Lansing) in the 60-meter dash. He took first-place in his preliminary heat (7.20 seconds) and then placed seventh in the finals with a time of 7.22 seconds. Senior James Williams (Battle Creek/Central) narrowly missed qualifying for the finals, as he had a prelim time of 7.21 seconds. He did win his preliminary heat in the 200-meter dash, but his time of 23.85 seconds was also not fast enough for a top 10 finish.
Freshman Evan Simpson (Romeo) was seventh in the one mile run at 4:41.78. Freshman Jalen Weaver (Albion) finished in eighth-place in the 800-meter run at 2:02.41.
Olivet will participate in the Grand Valley State University Big Meet next Saturday, Feb. 11. Action starts at 10 a.m.
