Caldwell wins 400 at 2011 MIAA Jamboree
Led by Sarah Caldwell’s first-place finish in the 400-meter run, the women’s track and field team finished in sixth-place with 292 points at the 2011 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree today at Adrian College.
ADRIAN, Mich. – Led by Sarah Caldwell's (Bronson) first-place finish in the 400-meter run, the Olivet College women's track and field team finished in sixth-place with 292 points at the 2011 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree today at Adrian College.
Today's jamboree counts 50 percent towards determining the conference championship, with the field day determining the other 50 percent. Olivet will host the 2011 MIAA Field Day May 5-6 at the Kolassa Track.
Caldwell, who also won the 400 run at the 2011 MIAA Jamboree, clocked-in at 1:00.42 to edge Hope's Sarah Venlet at the line by 18 one-hundredths of a second. Also on the track, the 4x100 relay team of Becca Gaarde (Parma/Western), Chelsea Guzikowski (Reed City), Cassandra Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) and Liz Stewart (Vermontville/Maple Valley) finished in fourth-place at 52.29 seconds. Senior Katie Yahrmarkt (Sparta) broke the school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:55.64.
In the field events, Heather Nicklaw (Springport) tied with four other athletes for the second-best clearance (1.52m) in the high jump, but the tiebreaking procedures dropped her to sixth-place. Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) placed sixth in the shot put (10.45m).
The rest of the top ten finishes were by Ciaravino in the triple jump, 8.92m (9th) and long jump, 4.74m (10th); Gaarde in the 100-meter dash, :13.93 (9th) and 100-meter hurdles, :19.03 (10th); and Stewart in the 400-meter run, 1:04.72 (10th);
Olivet will compete at the Aquinas College Open Meet next Saturday, April 23.
