Track and field teams compete at Toledo Invitational
The Olivet College men’s and women’s track and field teams competed yesterday and today at the 26th Annual University of Toledo Invitational at the UT Varsity Track in Toledo, Ohio. The meet was unscored and featured NCAA Division I, II and III schools, NAIA schools and junior colleges as well as unattached athletes.

Olivet men's top finisher on the track was turned in by Edric Miller (Battle Creek/Central) who placed third in the 100-meter dash. He stopped the clock at 11.06 seconds. James Williams (Battle Creek/Central) was right behind him in the 100, finishing in seventh at 11.23 seconds. The 4x100-meter relay was fifth in 44.56 seconds. Other top 10 finishes on the track were by Jesse Holmes (Springport) in the 400-meter dash (seventh, 51.97) and Matt Marquette (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) in the 400-meter hurdles (ninth, 1:10.03).
Tim Esper (New Hudson/Walled Lake North) recorded a pair of Top 10 finishes. He was fourth in the javelin with a 46.60 meter (152'11") toss and tied for ninth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.80 meters (5'10.75"). Matt Duncan (White Lake/Walled Lake North) finished in ninth-place in the javelin (40.07 meters/131'5").
For the women, Olivia Yarrell (East Lansing/Sexton) posted a fourth- and eighth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (12.79) and 200-meter dash (26.70), respectively. Sarah Caldwell (Bronson) was the top Division III finisher in the 400-meter dash, as she placed eighth in 1:00.94. The 4x100-meter relay team finished in fifth-place in 52.39 seconds. Heather Nicklaw (Springport) was the highest field finisher, finishing 10th in the high jump (1.54 meters/5'1/2").
The Comets return to action next Thursday and Friday, May 6-7, when they participate in the 2010 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Field Day. Alma College is hosting the championships.
