Indoor track and field teams competed at the Hillsdale College Invitational

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- The Olivet College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed last night at the Hillsdale College Invitational. It was an unscored meet.
Leading the way for the Lady Comets was junior Andrea Johnson (Ravenna High School), who won the shot put and set a school record with a 39’1/2" toss. She breaks the record of 37’7" set by Adrianne Thompson in 2000. Johnson was also sixth in the long jump with a personal best (PB) 15’1" leap.
In addition, freshman Caroline Chard (Union City High School) was fourth and set a PB time in the 55 meter hurdles (9.77 seconds). She also teamed with juniors Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) and Lindsay Olds (Hartford High School) and freshman Rachel Strelecki (Sterling/Standish High School) in the 4x400 meter relay to set a PB time (4:51). McHugh was 10th in the long jump (14’6").
The Fighting Comets were led by freshman Joe Cox (Flint/Carman-Ainsworth High School), who was sixth in the shot put (44’1"). Senior Benji Garza (Holland High School) finished in ninth in the shot put with a PB 42’4.5" toss.
Freshmen Chad Folkersma (Rudyard High School), Dan Kimball (National City High School), senior Steve Szokola (Marysville High School) and sophomore Kevin Kreh (Kinde/Huron High School) had a PB time of 8:54 in the 4x800 relay. Kimball also ran a PB time of 4:54 in the mile run. Freshman Moe Palli (Bloomington, Ill./Glenbard Twp. High School) dropped his PB time in the 3000 meter run to 10:06. Olivet will next compete on Friday, Feb. 21 when it travels to Mount Pleasant for an open meet at Central Michigan University.
