Three women’s tennis players participate in USTA/ITA Central Regional
Three Olivet College women’s tennis players, Rachael Horn, Caitlin LaValley and Kelsey Singer, participated in the 2011 USTA/ITA Central Regional, hosted by Kalamazoo College.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Three Olivet College women's tennis players, Rachael Horn (Niles), Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) and Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central), participated in the 2011 United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional, hosted by Kalamazoo College.
In the singles bracket, Singer rallied to win her first round match over Kathleen Klauer from Saint Mary's (Ind.) College. She lost the first set, 6-3, but forced a match tiebreaker with a 6-3 win in the second set. Singer won the tiebreaker, 10-8. In the round of 32, Singer fell to Gracie Mullins from Lake Forest (Ill.) College 7-6 (5), 6-2.
Horn and LaValley lost their matches in the first round. Horn was defeated by Preeya Shah from Oberlin (Ohio) 6-0, 6-2. LaValley fell to Aarthi Kasilingam from Washington (Mo.) University 6-1, 6-2.
Horn bounced back to beat Sally Harrison from Kalamazoo in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. She then bowed out of the tournament with a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Emily Kiourtsis from Ohio Wesleyan University.
LaValley also won her next match over Lydia Tritschler from Ohio Wesleyan. After losing the first set 6-1, she won the next one 6-1 and then won the match tiebreaker, 11-9. LaValley was bounced from the tournament with a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Kelly Adams from Principia (Mo.) University.
LaValley and Singer teamed together to post an 8-2 win in the doubles bracket. They beat Kacia Nolan and Kristin Wright from Wittenberg (Ohio) University. LaValley and Singer lost an 8-5 pro-set to Mary Arnold and Aileen Hoffman from DePauw (Ind.) University.
