Women’s tennis team beats Trine 6-3 in regular season finale
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College women's tennis team closed out the regular season portion of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schedule with a 6-3 win today at Trine (Ind.) University.
The Comets won 2-of-3 doubles flights. At the No. 1 position, Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/ Pennfield) and Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central) rolled to an 8-2 win. At the No. 2 position, Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) and Paige Sedgewick (Lennon/Powers Catholic) needed a 7-4 victory in the tiebreaker to win the pro-set, 9-8.
Olivet won 4-of-6 singles flights. LaValley, Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) and Sedgewick all posted 6-2, 6-1 wins at the first, second and fourth positions, respectively. At the sixth position, Bergeron lost the first set 6-2 but bounced back to win the second set 6-4 to force a match tie-breaker, which she won 10-8.
The Comets are now idle until next Friday, April 29, when they play a first round match of the 2011 MIAA Tournament at Kalamazoo College. Seeds and opponents will be determined at the conclusion of all league matches this week.
