Women’s tennis team defeats Alma, 6-3
The women's tennis team hung on to beat Alma College, 6-3, this afternoon at the MSU Tennis Facility in East Lansing.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Olivet College women's tennis team hung on to beat Alma College, 6-3, this afternoon at the MSU Tennis Facility in East Lansing.
The Comets swept the three doubles matches. The No. 1 duo of Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) and Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central), posted an 8-2 win. The No. 2 duo of Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) and Rachael Horn (Niles), and the No. 3 duo of Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) and Paige Sedgewick (Lennon/Powers Catholic) had the same 8-4 pro-set victory.
The teams split the six singles matches. LaValley won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1 position. Guerra needed three sets to win 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-5, at the No. 2 position for her sixth straight singles win. At the No. 4 position, Horn lost the first set and was down 3-0 in the second. She won 11 straight games before dropping a game. Horn won the next for a thrilling 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win.
Olivet goes in search of its sixth straight win when it plays Adrian College.
