Women’s tennis team beats Juniata, 8-1
The women’s tennis team improved to 3-2 on the season with an 8-win over Juniata (Pa.) College this morning in Hilton Head, S.C.
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Olivet College women's tennis team improved to 3-2 on the season with an 8-1 win over Juniata (Pa.) College this morning in Hilton Head, S.C.
The match started with singles play, where Olivet swept all six flights, including three wins in match tiebreakers. Sophomore Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield), junior Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/ Columbia Central) and freshman Rachael Horn (Niles) all won in straight sets in No. 1, 3 and 4 singles, respectively.
At No. 2 singles, junior Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) lost the first set, but bounced back to win the second set and match tiebreaker. Juniors Jenna Baker (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) won the first set and lost the second set before winning the match tiebreaker at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
The Comets claimed victory in 2-of-3 doubles flights. Baker and Guerra won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. Bergeron and Horn did not lose any games en route to an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Olivet will play its final spring break match tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. against Millersville (Pa.) University.
