The Olivet College women's tennis team took first-place at the Trine University Thunder Doubles Classic today at Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek. The Comets won 10-of-12 doubles matches.
After Olivet, Kalamazoo Valley Community College was second. Aquinas College placed third, and the host Thunder was fourth.
The Comets' No. 1 duo of freshman Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) and senior Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchanan) and No. 2 duo of junior Celeste Gruber (South Haven) and freshman Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central) each won their three matches.
The No. 4 duo of freshman Jenna Baker (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and sophomore Kristen Wolfolk (Lansing/Haslett) also won three times. Two wins were by default because Trine and Aquinas did not have a No. 4 doubles team. Olivet's No. 3 duo of sophomore Leanne Scudder (St. Joseph/Lakeshore) and freshman Paige Sedgewick (Lennon/Powers Catholic) posted one win.
The Comets will play three non-conference matches this week, beginning Wednesday when they travel to play Aquinas.
