The Comets breezed through the three doubles matches. The No. 1 tandem of freshman Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) and senior Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchannan) won, 8-5. The No. 2 tandem of junior Celeste Gruber (South Haven) and freshman Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central) lost only one game en route to an 8-1 pro-set victory, while the No. 3 tandem of sophomore Leanne Scudder (St. Joseph/Lakeshore) and freshman Paige Sedgewick (Lennon/Powers Catholic) lost just two games for an 8-2 pro-set win.
Olivet won all six singles matches, including four in straight sets. At the No. 1 flight, Mummaw won the first game, 6-3, but lost the second, 7-5, and earned the win with a 10-7 win in the super-tiebreaker. Winning in straight sets were Guerra at No. 2 (6-1, 6-3); Gruber at No. 3 (7-6 (5), 6-3); Singer at No. 4 (6-2, 6-4); and Scudder at No. 5 (6-2, 6-2). The outcome of the match was decided, so Sedgewick won a 10-4 super-tiebreaker set at No. 6 singles.
The Comets are back in action tomorrow against Malone (Ohio) College. The match will get started at 8 a.m.
