Women’s tennis team defeats Indiana Tech, 7-2
The Olivet College women’s tennis team defeated Indiana Tech, 7-2, today at the MSU Tennis Facility in East Lansing.

The Comets swept the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of junior captain Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchanan) and senior Abbie Utberg (Commerce Twp./Walled Lake Central) along with the No. 3 team of senior Katie Griffes (Eaton Rapids) and sophomore Mindy Timm (Three Rivers) each cruised to an 8-1 pro-set victory. The No. 2 team of sophomore Celeste Gruber (South Haven) and freshman Leanne Scudder (St. Joseph/Lakeshore) needed to win the tiebreaker, 7-4, to win its flight.
Utberg, Griffes, Scudder and freshman Kristen Wolfolk (Lansing/Haslett) all won in singles play. Utberg posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 2 flight. Griffes lost the first set, 7-5, but bounced back to win the second set, 6-3, and then won the super-tiebreak, 10-5, at the No. 4 flight. Scudder won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 5 flight. Wolfolk did not lose a single game en route to an easy 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 6 flight.
Olivet will resume MIAA play Monday when it travels to play Calvin College at 3 p.m.
