Women's tennis team defeats Adrian, 7-2
The Olivet College women’s tennis team defeated Adrian College, 7-2, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match today at the Michigan State University Tennis Facility in East Lansing.
The Olivet College women's tennis team defeated Adrian College, 7-2, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match today at the Michigan State University Tennis Facility in East Lansing.
The Comets (4-2, 1-1 MIAA) swept the three doubles matches and won four-of-six singles matches en route to the victory. In doubles, the No. 1 duo of Mallory Bailey (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix)-Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville) and the No. 2 duo of Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchanan)-Abbie Utberg (Commerce Twp./Walled Lake Central) each won an 8-3 pro-set. The No. 3 duo of Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix)-Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) had an 8-2 pro-set victory.
In singles, Vilums cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 1 flight. At No. 2 singles, Mummaw won 6-1, 6-0. Struble improved her season record to 5-1 in No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win. Freshman Celeste Gruber (South Haven) won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
Olivet will participate in the Tri-State (Ind.) University Doubles Classic tomorrow at the Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek.
