Women's tennis team beats Indiana Tech, 9-0
The Olivet College women’s tennis team defeated Indiana Tech, 9-0, this afternoon in Fort Wayne, Ind. With the win, the Comets improve their overall record to 9-8 and match the school record win total of nine from the 2005 season.
The Olivet College women's tennis team defeated Indiana Tech, 9-0, this afternoon in Fort Wayne, Ind. With the win, the Comets improve their overall record to 9-8 and match the school record win total of nine from the 2005 season.
Each of Olivet's three doubles tandems won by identical 8-1 scores. The No. 1 tandem was seniors Mallory Bailey (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) and Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville). Senior Jaime Morrison (Marshall) and junior Abbie Utberg (Commerce Twp./Walled Lake Central) teamed together at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles team was seniors Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) and Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek).
All six of the Comets' singles players cruised to straight set victories, including 6-0, 6-0 wins for Jager at the No. 3 flight, Struble at the No. 5 flight and Bailey at the No. 6 flight. At No. 1, Vilums won 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2, sophomore Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchanan) earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory. At No. 4, freshman Celeste Gruber (South Haven) picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Olivet is back in action Friday when it participates in the 2007 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships, which will be played at Kalamazoo College's Stowe Stadium.
