Women’s tennis team falls to Tri-State, 5-4
The Olivet College women’s tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Tri-State (Ind.) University this afternoon in Angola.
The Olivet College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Tri-State (Ind.) University this afternoon in Angola. The Comets (8-9, 2-5 MIAA) earned their team points at the No. 1 doubles and No. 2, 4 and 6 singles flights.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of freshman Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchanan) and junior Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville) won an easy 6-0, 6-1 straight set victory. At the No. 2 singles flight, Mummaw won in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-3. At No. 4 singles, junior Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) won the first set, 6-2, lost the second set, 6-2, and bounced back to win 6-2 in the third set. At No. 6 singles, junior Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/ Harper Creek) lost only three games en route to an easy 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Olivet ends its 2006 regular season Tuesday, April 25, when it travels to play Albion College at 3 p.m. The 2006 MIAA Championships are Friday and Saturday, April 28-29 at Hope College.
