Women’s tennis team finishes in second-place at TSU Thunder Doubles Tournament
The Olivet College women's tennis team finished in second-place today at the Tri-State University (TSU) Thunder Doubles Tournament, which was held at the Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek.
The Olivet College women's tennis team finished in second-place today at the Tri-State University (TSU) Thunder Doubles Tournament, which was held at the Minges Creek Athletic Club in Battle Creek. The round-robin tournament featured four doubles flights for each of the four participating schools – Adrian, Aquinas and Olivet colleges and TSU. Aquinas College took first-place.
Olivet's No. 1, 2 and 4 doubles flights won two-of-three matches apiece with wins against Adrian and TSU, and a loss to Aquinas. The No. 1 team was junior Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville) and sophomore Abbie Utberg (Commerce Twp./Walled Lake Central). Juniors Mallory Bailey (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) and Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) teamed up in the No. 2 flight. Freshmen Kristina Mellinger (Constantine) and Jaclyn Mummaw (Buchannan) were the No. 4 duo.
The Comets' No. 3 team of juniors Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) and Jaime Morrison (Marshall) defeated the team from Adrian.
Olivet opens Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Tuesday, March 21, when it hosts Saint Mary's (Ind.) College. Action from the Michigan State University Tennis Facility begins at 4 p.m.
