Women’s tennis team opens MIAA play with 6-3 loss to Saint Mary’s
The Olivet College women's tennis team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with a 6-3 loss to Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College this afternoon at the Michigan State University Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing.
The Olivet College women's tennis team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with a 6-3 loss to Saint Mary's (Ind.) College this afternoon at the Michigan State University Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing. The Comets' (2-4, 0-1 MIAA) three points came at No. 1 doubles along with No. 1 and 6 singles.
At No. 1 doubles, the team of sophomore Abbie Utberg (Commerce Twp./Walled Lake Central) and junior Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville) came from behind to win a three set match. They lost the first set, 6-0, bounced back to win the second set 7-6 with a 7-5 score in the tiebreaker and won the third set, 7-5. Vilums stayed perfect on the year with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Junior Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) picked-up a straight set, 6-3, 6-2, victory at No. 6 singles.
Olivet continues MIAA play Monday, March 27, when it travels to play Kalamazoo College at 3 p.m.
