Women’s tennis team beats Eastern Mennonite, loses to Baldwin-Wallace
The women's tennis team won a match and lost a match today during its Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. This morning, the Lady Comets defeated Eastern Mennonite (Va.) University (EMU), 5-4. This afternoon, Olivet fell to Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) College, 8-1.
The women's tennis team won a match and lost a match today during its Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. This morning, the Lady Comets defeated Eastern Mennonite (Va.) University (EMU), 5-4. This afternoon, Olivet fell to Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) College, 8-1.
Against EMU, the Comets won three singles and two doubles matches. Winning in singles action were sophomore Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville) at No. 1 (6-2, 6-2); sophomore Mallory Bailey (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1) and freshman Abbie Utberg (Commerce Twp./Walled Lake Central) at No. 6 (6-1, 6-3).
The winning doubles tandems were Vilums and sophomore Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) at No. 1 (8-2) along with Bailey and sophomore Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) at No. 2 (8-5).
Against B-W, sophomore Jaime Morrison (Marshall) was the Olivet winner at No. 5 singles. After losing the first set 6-1, she bounced back to win the second set 6-4 and then won the super-tiebreaker, 10-6.
The Comets wrap-up their southern schedule with a 10 a.m. match tomorrow against Waynesburg (Pa.) College.
