Women's tennis snaps MIAA losing streak with win against Alma
The Olivet College women’s tennis team snapped a 104-match losing streak in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) today with a win against Alma College at the Michigan State University Indoor Tennis Facility. Prior to today, the last MIAA win was a 5-4 victory over Adrian College on April 19, 1988. In school history, Olivet has now won only three MIAA matches.

Olivet picked-up wins at #1, #2, #3 and #5 singles and #1 and #2 doubles. Number one player Rachel Vilums (Hudsonville High School) won 6-0, 6-3. Number three player Mallory Bailey (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School) lost the first set 6-3, and rebounded to win the second and third sets by 6-4 scores. Number three player Corey Jager (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School) won 7-5, 6-0 and number five player Venera Kurteshi (Taylor Truman High School) won 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles, the #1 tandem of Bailey and Vilums won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. The #2 tandem of Stephanie Reed (Holt High School) and Lindsey Struble (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School) also picked-up a straight set victory 6-3, 6-4.
The Lady Comets are next in action on Monday, April 5, when they travel to play Spring Arbor University. They will resume MIAA play on Wednesday, April 7, at Kalamazoo College.
