The women’s swimming team fell to Hope, 155-110, in its MIAA dual meet opener today at the Dow Center in Holland.
HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Olivet College women's swimming team fell to Hope College, 155-110, in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meet opener today at the Dow Center in Holland.
The Comets turned in the fastest time in three individual events and one relay. The 200 medley relay team of Jacalyn Cordero (Holland), Crystal Jager (Dorr/Hamilton), Caitlin Lohr (Holland/Hamilton) and Ally Ramer (Holt) touched the wall first in 1:53.43.
Individually, junior Jessica Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) swept the distance freestyle events, winning the 1,000 (11:33.70) and leading an Olivet 1-2-3 finish in the 500 (5:39.18). Lohr finished first in the 50 freestyle (:24.83).
Second fastest times were achieved by Chelsea Mullins (Macomb/L'Anse Creuse North) in the 1,000 freestyle, 12:14.24; Kristin Long (Pemberville, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) in the 200 freestyle, 2:05.13; and Erica Schlabach (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) in the 200 butterfly, 2:23.87 and 500 freestyle, 5:45.27. In addition, the 400 freestyle relay team of Jager, Lohr, Ramer and Emily LaPorta (Hamilton) placed second in 3:47.71.
Olivet will compete in non-conference dual meets next Friday, Nov. 12, against Ohio Northern University and Hillsdale College. The meet at Hillsdale starts at 6 p.m. The next day, Saturday, Nov. 13, the Comets will swim against Albion College at the Upton Center Pool at 1 p.m.
