Women’s swimming and diving team finishes in first-place at North Central (Ill.) Invitational
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team finished in first-place (out of eight schools) Saturday afternoon at the North Central College Invitational in Naperville, Ill. The Comets recorded 327 points. Wheaton (Ill.) College was second with 301 points.

Senior Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell) led the way for Olivet with two first-place finishes. She was first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.08) and 100-yard backstroke (1:01.53). Lingbeek, freshman Amy Johnson (Gaylord), junior Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion) and freshman Erin Tramper (Jenison) took first-place honors in the 200-yard medley relay (1:55.71).
In a field of 35 swimmers, Johnson was first in the 50-yard freestyle (:25.46). She also claimed second-place in the 100-yard freestyle (:55.34). Junior Laura Herzog (St. Joseph) recorded a pair of second-place finishes, 200-yard freestyle (2:03.39) and 500-yard freestyle (5:36.04).
Roesch claimed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.35) and Tramper was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.30). The Comets also took third-place in two events, Tramper in the 500-yard freestyle (5:36.19) and sophomore Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.00).
Olivet's 400-yard freestyle team of Herzog, Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison), Kelly Schulze (Kalamazoo/Central) and Carrie Schroeder (Marshall) was third (3:55.14).
The Comets are idle until Saturdy, Jan. 7, when they host the University of Chicago (Ill.) at 1 p.m. The meet will be held at Battle Creek Lakeview High School.
