Women's swimming and diving team splits duals with Hope and Saint Mary's
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team began its 2005-06 season with a pair of dual meets against Hope and Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet. The Comets routed Saint Mary’s, 98-13 but fell to Hope, 64-48.

Olivet claimed second- and third-place in the first event, 200-yard medley relay. The second-place team of senior Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell), junior Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion) and freshmen Amy Johnson (Gaylord) and Erin Tramper (Jenison) clocked in at 1:55.72.
Sophomore Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:27.34), while junior Laura Herzog (St. Joseph) was third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.69). Freshman Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison) touched the wall first for the Comets in the 50-yard freestyle at 25.68 seconds. Lingbeek recorded a third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.93).
In the one-meter dive, junior Kristin Bloomquist (Holt) broke her own school record with 238.65 points. The previous was record 235.55 points. Sophomore Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western) was second to her with 203.50 points.
Sophomore Rachel Tunison (Erie/Mason) finished in third-place in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.83). Johnson and Reeder led a 1-2 Olivet finish in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 55.55 and 55.70 seconds, respectively. Lingbeek added a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.88).
The 500-yard freestyle had Roesch clocking in at 5:33.48, which placed her second. Bloomquist also broke her own school-record on the three-meter diving board. She was first with 239.50 points, seven points better than the old record. Mich was second with 169.45 points.
Tramper set a pool record and claimed first-place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.63. The Comets' 200-yard freestyle relay team of Herzog, Johnson, Redder and freshman Kelly Schulze (Kalamazoo/K-Central) placed second (1:42.19).
Olivet is back in action Friday, Nov. 4, when it travels to Grand Rapids for a dual meet with Calvin College at 6 p.m.
