Women's swimming and diving team places third at 2006 MIAA Championships
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team finished in third-place at the 2006 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, which concluded today at Jenison High School. The Comets tallied 373 points which was 98.5 points ahead of Kalamazoo College.

Olivet had five swimmers place in the top 12 of the 1,650-yard freestyle. Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio) led the way with a third-place finish in a school record time of 18:34.26. She was followed by Laura Herzog (St. Joseph) in fourth, 18:36.04; Ashley Zaborski (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) in seventh, 19:02.06; Lisa Egelkraut (Battle Creek/Central) in eighth, 19:04.80; and Heather Michalsen (Plymouth/Salem) in 11th, 19.20.80.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion) touched the wall in sixth-place (2:15.37). Amy Johnson (Gaylord) broke the school record with a time of 54.14 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle. In the consolation finals, Kalee Redder (Grandville/Jenison) was second fastest with a time of 54.15 seconds.
Katie Kilmartin (Wayland) led a Comet 3-4 finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. She lowered the school record with a time of 2:28.55. Erin Tramper (Jenison) was just .04 seconds behind at 2:28.59.
Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell) took home her third individual medal of the championships with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard butterfly. Her time was 2:10.60. Rachel Tunison (Erie/Mason) placed sixth in 2:20.01, followed by Michalsen in ninth (2:22.79).
Olivet's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Johnson, Lingbeek, Redder and Kelly Schulze (Kalamazoo/Central) shattered the school record by more than five seconds and finished in third-place at 3:36.88.
