Women’s swimming and diving team beats Saint Mary’s (Ind.), loses to Hope
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team opened its 2004-05 season this afternoon with a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) double dual meet at Hope College. The Lady Comets defeated Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College, 158-61, however, they dropped a 132.5-101.5 decision to the Flying Dutch.

The Lady Comets defeated Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College, 158-61, however, they dropped a 132.5-101.5 decision to the Flying Dutch. Olivet had 10 first- or second-place finishes.
The day’s activities started out on a positive note as Laura Herzog (St. Joseph High School), Katie Kilmartin (Wayland High School), Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell High School) and Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion High School) swam to a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay in a time of 4:15.79.
Sophomore Kristin Bloomquist (Holt High School) captured first-place in the one-meter diving event (191.55). She was also first on the three-meter board (209.20).
With a second-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle, freshman Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon High School) set a school record with a time of 11:24.94. She also finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:36.66).
Lingbeek broke her own school record in the 200 butterfly (2:16.62). Roesch was second in the 200 backstroke (2:19.29) and Kilmartin was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:38.93).
The 400 freestyle relay team of Boyd, Lingbeek and sophomores Janet Stam (Holland High School) and Ashley Zaborski (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School) finished second with a time of 3:54.67.
Olivet continues MIAA action Friday, Nov. 5, when it hosts Calvin College in the Upton Center Pool at 6 p.m.
