Women's swimming and diving is fourth at 2005 MIAA Championships
Junior Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell) won her third individual event and the Lady Comets finished in fourth-place at the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships.
Junior Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell) won her third individual event and the Lady Comets finished in fourth-place at the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships. Olivet had 287 points to finish behind Calvin (562), Hope (465) and Kalamazoo (365).
Lingbeek, who was seeded fourth, won the 200 butterfly in a school-record time of 2:08.78, which is also a NCAA championships provisional qualifying time. She was also first last night in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Freshman Rachel Tunison (Erie Mason) was sixth in the 200 butterfly (2:21.03).
In addition, sophomore Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion) claimed second-place in the 200 backstroke (school-record 2:11:07). Freshman Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio) and sophomore Laura Herzog (St. Joseph) were fifth and sixth, respectively in the 1,650 freestyle. Boyd broke the school record (18:40.82).
Sophomore Kristin Bloomquist (Holt) narrowly missed breaking her own school record in the one-meter diving competition. She had 355.30 points to place third. Freshman Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western) was fifth (314.55).
The Comets’ 400 freestyle relay team of Herzog. Lingbeek, Roesch and sophomore Janet Stam (Holland) finished in fourth-place and broke the school record by .16 seconds (3:42.32).
