Women’s swimming and diving team loses to Kalamazoo College, 134-96
The women’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Kalamazoo College, 134-96, this afternoon at the Kalamazoo College Natatorium.
The women’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Kalamazoo College, 134-96, this afternoon at the Kalamazoo College Natatorium.
Individually, junior Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell) and sophomore Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion) had two first-place finishes each. Lingbeek won the 50 freestyle (:25.25) and 100 butterfly (school-record :59.39). Roesch finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:02.62) and beat the competition by more than 11 seconds with a school-record time of 4:53.46 in the 400 individual medley.
Lingbeek and Roesch also swam a leg on a second-place relay team. Lingbeek along with sophomores Caitlin Cornell (Corunna), Laura Herzog (St. Joseph) and Janet Stam (Holland) swam the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.68). Cornell, Roesch, Katie Kilmartin (Wayland) and Rachel Tunison (Erie/Mason) were on the 200 medley relay (1:58.69).
In addition, freshman Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western) was second in the one- and three-meter diving competitions (178.35 and 165.70, respectively). The other second-place finishes were by Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio) in the 500 freestyle (5:35.79), Christina Coxon (Mason) in the 100 backstroke (1:08.72) and Kilmartin in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.69).
The Comets are idle until the 2005 MIAA Championships Feb. 10-12, at the Holland Aquatic Center. Action begins each day with preliminaries at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m.
