Women’s swimming and diving team beats Alma, 145-69
The women’s swimming and diving team broke three school records en route to a 145-69 win over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Alma College tonight at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
The women’s swimming and diving team broke three school records en route to a 145-69 win over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Alma College tonight at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
Leading the way for the Lady Comets were freshman Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio), junior Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell), freshman Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western) and sophomore Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion), who won two individual events apiece.
Boyd was first in the 1,000 freestyle (11:21.47) and 500 freestyle (5:33.17). Lingbeek touched the wall first and broke the school record in the 200 individual medley (2:16.77) and 200 butterfly (2:14.45). Mich won the one- and three-meter dives (201.20 and 188.15, respectively). Roesch claimed first in the 200 freestyle (2:01.08) and 200 backstroke (2:18.67).
In addition, Lingbeek and Roesch were joined by sophomore Caitlin Cornell (Corunna) and freshman Katie Kilmartin (Wayland) on the winning 400 medley relay (4:15.06). Kilmatin also set a school record with a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.87).
Olivet also had seven second-place finishes, including two by sophomore Laura Herzog (St. Joseph) in the 1,000 freestyle (11:22.67) and 200 breaststroke (2:38.58). Other runner-up finishers were Cornell in the 50 freestyle (:26.20), sophomore Christina Coxon (Mason) in the 200 backstroke (2:29.38), freshman Caroline Schroeder (Marshall) in the 100 freestyle (:59.37), sophomore Janet Stam (Holland) in the 500 freestyle (5:52.74) and sophomore Ashley Zaborski (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) in the 200 freestyle (2:08.17).
The Comets will travel for a MIAA dual tomorrow at Kalamazoo College at 1 p.m.
