Women’s swimming and diving team beats University of Chicago (Ill.), 166-64
The women’s swimming and diving teams finished first in all except one event en route to a 166-64 win over against non-conference foe University of Chicago this afternoon at Myers-McLoraine Swimming Pool in Chicago.

Junior Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell) won three times and broke her own school record in two of those events. School record times were 25.14 seconds in the 50 freestyle and 59.82 seconds in the 100 butterfly. She was also first in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.57.
In addition, sophomore Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion) garnered two first-place finishes. She had a time of 2:18.77 in the 200 individual medley and broke the school record by nearly four seconds in the 500 freestyle (5:24.50).
Also finishing in first were sophomore Kristin Bloomquist (Holt) in the one-meter dive (223.25), sophomore Laura Herzog (St. Joseph) in the 200 freestyle (2:03.84), freshman Katie Kilmartin (Wayland) in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.13) and sophomore Janet Stam (Holland) in the 100 freestyle (56.82).
Both relays, 200 medley and 200 freestyle, were first. Kilmartin and Roesch joined with Caitlin Cornell (Corunna) and Rachel Tunison (Erie/Mason) to finish the 200 medley relay in 1:59.18. Cornell, Herzog, Stam and Ashley Zaborski (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) had a time of 1:47.27 in the 200 free relay.
The Lady Comets also picked-up eight individual second-place finishes, including two by freshman Sarah Boyd (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) in the 1000 freestyle (11:28.98) and 100 freestyle (1:00.11).
The other second-place finishes were by Cornell in the 50 freestyle (26.82), Christina Coxon (Mason) in the 100 backstroke (1:09.09), Herzog in the 500 freestyle (5:31.61), freshman Courtney Mich (Bay City/Western) in the one-meter dive (174.20), Stam in the 200 freestyle (2:05.81) and Tunison in the 100 butterfly (1:04.71).
The Comets resume their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schedule next Saturday, Jan. 15, when they host Albion College at 1 p.m.
