Women's swim and dive team beats Ohio Northern and Hiram (Ohio)
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team defeated Ohio Northern University, 71-41, and Hiram (Ohio) College, 69-42, today at the ONU Sports Center in Ada, Ohio.
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team defeated Ohio Northern University, 71-41, and Hiram (Ohio) College, 69-42, today at the ONU Sports Center in Ada, Ohio.
Against Ohio Northern, the Lady Comets finished first in 11 of 13 events. They also finished first in nine of those events against Hiram. Leading the way for Olivet was freshman diver Kristin Bloomquist (Holt High School), who won the one- and three-meter dives with a score of 205.60 and 225.60 points, respectively.
Laura Herzog (St. Joseph High School) won the 1,000 freestyle (11:33.09), Ashlee Hoefling (Mason High School) was first in the 200 freestyle (2:05.09) and Janet Stam (Holland High School) captured the 100 freestyle (58.05). Their times were first against both Hiram and ONU.
In addition, Stam joined with Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell High School), Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) and Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion High School) to finish first and break the school record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:55. Herzog and Hoefling teamed with Caitlin Cornell (Corunna High School) and Ashley Zaborski (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School) for a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.10).
McHugh also broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.17). Lingbeek set a school record in the 100 butterfly (1:03.89) by just .01 seconds.
Olivet is idle until January 10, 2004, when it travels to Holland to resume its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule. The Comets will swim against Hope College and Alma College with action starting at 1 p.m.
