Women's swim and dive team opens season with a double dual meet at Calvin

Against MIAA rival Albion College, the Lady Comets came up just short by 13 points, 121-108. The Knights defeated Olivet 151-81.
Leading the way for the Lady Comets was freshman Caitlin Cornell (Corunna High School), who placed first against both schools in the 100 freestyle with a time of :56.39.
Cornell joined freshmen Jamie Brubaker (Battle Creek/ Central High School), Andria Page (Eaton Rapids High School) and Denise Ritzer (Kalamazoo/Central High School) to break the school record with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.50).
Senior Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) teamed with first-year swimmers Laura Herzog (St. Joseph High School), Kathryn Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion High School) and Janet Stam (Holland High School) to shatter the school record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:58.06. The previous record was 2:12.50.
Freshman Kristen Bloomquist (Holt High School) was the top diver for the Lady Comets. No scores were available for the diving action.
Olivet is next in action on Saturday, Nov. 8, when it hosts non-conference foe Hillsdale College at 11 a.m.
