Women's swim/dive in fifth-place after first day of MIAA Championships
The Olivet College women’s swimming and diving team is in fifth-place after day one of the 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships at the East Grand Rapids High School Pool. The Lady Comets tallied 69 points and trail Alma College for fourth-place by one point.

Laura Herzog (St. Joseph High School) narrowly missed breaking the school record during the preliminaries of the 500 freestyle. In the consolation finals, she placed 11th and broke it (school record) with a time 5:28.19.
In the 200 individual medley, freshman Katherine Roesch (Oakland Twp./Lake Orion High School) shaved 0.51 seconds off her record-setting time in the prelims to finish ninth in the consolation finals (2:17.71). Kristi Miller (Marshall High School) and Janet Stam (Holland High School) placed ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 50 free. During the prelims, Stam finished ahead of Miller and set a school record (25.53). Kristin Bloomquist (Holt High School) was fifth in the three-meter dive and scored 357.23 points.
Miller and Stam joined with Jill Lingbeek (Plainwell High School) and Caitlin Cornell (Corunna High School) for a third-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:41.86). During the prelims, they broke the school record (1:41.40). Herzog, Lingbeek, Roesch and Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) was fourth in the 400 medley relay with a record-setting time of 4:07.47.
