OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team fell to Alma College, 4-0, today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
Olivet's best chance to score a goal came just 34 seconds into the game. The Scots turned the ball over deep in their defensive territory. After receiving a pass, freshman Brooke Leach (Clinton Twp./Chippewa Valley) took a shot and it was saved by the Alma goalkeeper. The score stayed scoreless until 2 ½ minutes before halftime when McKenzie Smith found the back of the net for the Scots.
Alma added another goal in the 53rd minute. The Scots then put the game out of reach with two goals in the span of three minutes. The first was on a free kick from the top of the arc after an Olivet player was called for a handball at the 64:52 mark. The second came on a shot from inside the 6-yard box.
The Comets recorded just three shots, placing two on-goal. Freshman Patty Groh (Mason) played all 90 minutes in goal, faced 19 shots, 10 on-goal, and made six saves.
Olivet will return to the field Saturday afternoon when it plays at Albion College. Game time from Alumni Field is noon.
