UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Olivet College women's soccer team came up short against John Carroll (Ohio) University, 5-1, today at Don Shula Stadium in University Heights, Ohio.
The Blue Streaks raced out to a 4-0 lead with four goals in the first 17 minutes, 40 seconds of the game. Olivet scored its only goal at the 40:30 mark on a header by freshman Olivia Gardner (Trenton). Senior Danielle Mellor (Macomb/Regina) and sophomore Lindsey Winters (Plymouth/Canton) each earned an assist on the goal. The score stayed 4-1 until the 58th minute when JCU's Colleen Harmon found the back of the net.
For the game, the Blue Streaks placed 19-of-28 shots on goal. Olivet had six shots, including two apiece for Winters and sophomore Jenna Mayle (Ionia). Freshman Patty Groh (Mason) played all 90 minutes in goal and made 14 saves.
The Comets will stay in Ohio tonight and play at Case Western University tomorrow at 2 p.m.
