Women’s soccer team ends non-conference schedule with 4-0 win over Rochester
The women’s soccer team closed its non-conference schedule with a 4-0 win over Rochester today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. With the win, the Comets have a 9-1-1 record.
OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College women's soccer team closed its non-conference schedule with a 4-0 win over Rochester College today at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. With the win, the Comets have a 9-1-1 record.
Olivet struck first in the 18th minute. Off a corner kick by sophomore Marcee Lettinga (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Central), junior Danielle Mellor (Macomb/Regina) knocked in a shot into the back of the goal. The Comets added another goal in the 23rd minute on freshman Lindsey Winters' (Plymouth/Canton) first collegiate goal. Senior Ashley Buyce (Portage/Portage Central) was credited with an assist. The score stayed 2-0 at halftime.
Junior Lizzy Julian (Mattawan) scored two goals for the Comets in a span of just under three minutes early in the second half. For the first goal at the 50:32 mark, senior Katie Koralewski (Sterling Heights/Stevenson) sent the ball into the box from the middle of the field, where Julian sent a shot to the far post and into the goal. At the 53:18 mark, Julian used her left foot to launch a shot from 10 yards out, off the keeper's hands and into the goal. Buyce collected her second assist of the game.
Olivet was able to give playing time to 23 players and record 14 shots. Julian topped the team with three shots. Koralewski, Mellor and Winters had two shots apiece. Senior Leanne Scudder (St. Joseph/Lakeshore) earned the shutout in goal. All five shots she faced were on-goal.
The Comets open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Wednesday, Sept. 29, when they travel to play Alma College at 4 p.m.
