Women’s soccer team wins 2-1 in double overtime at Marygrove

DETROIT, Mich. -- Junior Lizzy Julian (Mattawan) scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime period and the Olivet College women's soccer team rallied to beat Marygrove College, 2-1, this afternoon in Detroit. With the win, the Comets improve their record to 8-1-1, while Marygrove slips to 3-4.
There was no scoring in the first half. Olivet got on the scoreboard just 3:15 into the second half when senior Katie Koralewski (Sterling Heights/Stevenson) scored. Julian and freshman Lindsey Winters (Plymouth) were each credited with assists. The Mustangs tied the game at 1-1 with an unassisted goal in the 76th minute.
In the first overtime period, the Comets peppered the goal with five shots. Then 2 minutes, 43 seconds into the second overtime period, Julian scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Sophomore Alison Lyon (Issaquah, Wash./Charlotte) earned an assist.
For the game, Olivet had a decisive 20-11 advantage in shots. Eight Comet shots were on-goal to six for the Mustangs. Julian topped the team with nine shots, including four on-goal. In net, senior Alyssa Budros (Traverse City/Central) played the entire game and collected five saves.
Olivet will rest tonight and host Rochester College tomorrow at 4 p.m.
