Women’s soccer team beats Trine, 2-0
The women’s soccer team shut out Trine (Ind.), 2-0, this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. With the win, the Comets improve their overall record to 10-2-2 and have reached the double figure win plateau for the first time since the 2001 season.
OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College women's soccer team shut out Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Trine (Ind.) University 2-0 this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. With the win, the Comets improve their overall record to 10-2-2. In addition, Olivet has reached the double figure win plateau for the first time since the 2001 season when they finished with an 11-6 record and only the third time in school history.
Olivet took a 1-0 lead just 2:45 into the game after senior Katie Koralewski (Sterling Heights/Stevenson) took a pass from fellow senior Cara Underwood (Holland), and sent her shot over the keeper's head and into the goal. The score stayed 1-0 until the 62:15 mark when Underwood scored her first goal of the season after volleying a shot into the back of the net. Senior Ashley Buyce (Portage/Central) earned the assist.
For the game, the Comets out-shot the Thunder, 19-5, including a decisive 11-2 advantage in shots-on-goal. Junior Lizzy Julian (Mattawan) led the way with four shots, followed by sophomore Rebecca Gaarde (Parma/Western) and junior Danielle Mellor (Macomb/Regina) with three apiece. Gaarde's two shots along with two shots for freshman Jenna Mayle (Ionia) were on-goal. In goal, senior Alyssa Budros (Traverse City/Central) played all 90 minutes in goal and collected two saves.
The Comets host Kalamazoo College Saturday at noon.
