Olivet College women’s soccer team enjoys cultural experience
The Olivet College women's soccer team recently enjoyed a cultural experience with members of the Israeli women's national soccer team. The Israelis were in the United States for anexchange that included interaction with athletes from Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schools. The visit was coordinated by the Academic Sports Association in cooperation with the American Israeli Friendship League and the MIAA.
After a "friendly" game against Calvin College Sept. 27, the Israeli team made its way to Olivet. Upon arrival, the guests were greeted by Olivet President Don and wife Louise Tuski, the Olivet women's soccer team and members of Olivet's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) group. SAAC sponsored a get-together where everyone had the opportunity to watch the USA women's World Cup soccer game. Their day ended with some of the Israeli players being given a host (Olivet soccer player) and staying the night in the residence halls.
The next day started with an early wake-up and breakfast in the Kirk Center (KC), Olivet's dining hall. After breakfast, the Israeli players attended morning classes with their host. Following lunch in the KC, the Israelis were treated to a cultural experience at the college's Oaks Theatre, where they enjoyed several acts, including a jazz combo, the Olivet College gospel choir and a poetry slam.
Afterwards, the Israeli players attended a practice with the Olivet women's team at the Cutler Athletic Complex. Prior to the practice, Olivet was given a signed game ball from the Israeli players and coaches.
After practicing, the teams shared a meal together. The Israelis then headed to Tri-State University in Angola, Ind. The other three MIAA schools participating in the tour were Albion, Alma and Kalamazoo.
