Vines selected MIAA Wrestler of the Week
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The University of Olivet junior Juwan Vines has been voted the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week. He is the third UOlivet wrestler this season to earn this honor. The others were Trenden Bashore on November 24 and Mason Knight on January 12.
Wrestling at 165 pounds, Vines defeated Lakin Webb from Trine University (Ind.), 4-2, in the Comets' first MIAA dual match of the 2026 season. A takedown in the final minute of the third period was the difference in the bout. Vines then had a 4-1 record to finish third at the Alma College / Bruce Dickey Open. His lone loss was to the eventual second-place wrestler from Grand Valley State University. Vines' wins were a pair of technical falls (22-6 and 18-3) and major decisions (13-3 and 20-9).
Olivet is back in action next Tuesday, January 28, when it hosts Alma College. Action from inside the Cutler Event Center gets under way at 7 p.m.
