UOlivet defeats Trine, 31-11, in MIAA-opener

ANGOLA, Ind. – The University of Olivet wrestling team began its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schedule by defeating Trine (Ind.) University, 31-11, tonight at Hershey Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets won 8-of-10 bouts, scoring bonus points in four.
- Tonight's match was the 25th all-time meeting between Olivet and Trine on the wrestling match. The Comets lead the series 24-1, including 18 straight wins. Olivet has outscored the Thunder, 798-200 in the 24 wins.
FOR THE COMETS
- The Thunder started the match with a pin at 125 pounds.
- At 133 pounds, freshman Trenden Bashore put the first points on the scoreboard for the Comets when he won a 15-5 major decision.
- Trine took the lead back with a technical fall victory at 141 pounds.
- Olivet then closed the match with seven straight wins.
- At 149 pounds, freshman Gabriel Gibbons won a 20-2 technical fall in four minutes and 32 seconds.
- At 157 pounds, sophomore Noah Hall posted a 13-1 major decision.
- At 165 pounds, junior Juwan Vines scored a takedown with around a minute left in the bout to win 4-2.
- At 174 pounds, junior Kyan Larson hung on for a 7-4 win.
- At 184 pounds, sophomore Jack Ward recorded a 7-2 win.
- At 197 pounds, senior Gideon Loewen pinned his opponent in one minute and 39 seconds.
- At 285 pounds, junior Shane Edwards used a takedown in the first period to propel him to a 5-1 win.
