Bashore named MIAA Wrestler of the Week
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The University of Olivet freshman Trenden Bashore has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week.
A native of DeWitt and graduate of DeWitt High School, Bashore wrestled at 133 pounds and posted a 4-0 record on November 22 at the Comet Duals. His performance helped the defending MIAA champions win each of their four dual matches against four Ohio schools – Heidelberg University (35-15), John Carroll University (26-16), University of Mount Union (32-17) and Wilmington College (41-10).
Bashore's wins were 7-2 over Colin Herring from Heidelberg, 5-3 over Alex Crane from John Carroll, 4-2 over Lance Armstrong from Mount Union and 17-4 over Braxton Ankrom from Wilmington. The 11 points he allowed were two reversals, five escapes and two penalty points. Herring and Crane entered the match ranked No. 6 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Individual Region 4 and 5 rankings, respectively.
Bashore currently boasts an 11-3 record this season. His wins are one pin, two technical falls, one major decision and seven minor decisions, while the three losses were all minor decisions (3-1, 6-5 and 4-0).
The Comets are off until Saturday, December 6, when they wrestle at the Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Invitational in Ada, Ohio.
